"Stand Up for Those Who Can't Sit Down" was the theme of today's celebration in New York for World Water Day. "You may not think standing in line for half an hour is the most glamorous way to spend your lunch break, but imagine the 2.6 Billion people who don't even have the luxury of a toilet to line up for."

World Water Day 2008 will highlight issues on sanitation in conjunction with the International Year of Sanitation 2008 as declared by the UN General Assembly. The goal of this effort is to raise awareness of the world's sanitation challenge and to accelerate progress toward reducing by 50% the number people without access to basic sanitation by 2015.
